Lousios is a river in the Peloponnese, a tributary of the Alfeios river and has a length of about 23 km.
Its springs are situated next to the church of Agia Paraskevi, near the village Kaloneri and further south in the region of ancient Theisoa.
After crossing west of Dimitsana, where there is the Outdoor Water Museum, Lousios crosses a spectacular 15 km long canyon with about 2 km wide, before reaching Alfeios river, near Karytaina.
On both sides of the gorge there are two historical monasteries, the Philosofou Monastery and the Prodromos Monastery.
The canyon was designated as an undivided archaeological site in 1997 and is protected by the Ministry of Culture.
The national path 32 (as a part of the European long distance path E4 GR), which starts from Vitina and ends in Gytheio passes alongside the western side of the canyon.
Lousios river is suitable for alternative tourism (hiking, canoeing and rafting).
